Madonna Honors Michael Jackson at 2009 VMAs
September 14, 2009 by Jeanne
Instead of opening with a performance, this year’s MTV Video Music Awards opened with Madonna paying tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I thought that it was going to be some 30-second speech which would be followed by video montage of his life and greatest video moments but, instead, the singer first drew parallels between her life and Jackson’s, talked about the time they spent together and then talks about how she feels the world let him down by embarking on a witch hunt and failing to treat him like a human being.
The crowd erupted in …read more
Madonna “Celebration” Music Video
September 1, 2009 by Jeanne
Have you seen the frenzied, dance-driven music video for Madonna’s new single “Celebration” yet? It was released just yesterday and while I wasn’t a big fan of the original version of this song, I like this remix even though it’s clearly not a melodic masterpiece.
It feels like a good dance track for this time of year and that is just another testament to Madge’s genius. She knows what is current, she knows what is going to be current in the near future and she knows when to release certain types of tracks.
Around the 3:15 mark you’ll see Madonna’s daughter, …read more
Madonna’s New Single “Celebration”
July 31, 2009 by Jeanne
Have you heard Madonna’s new single “Celebration”? Well, the first positive thing about it is that it doesn’t appear to be steeped in auto-tune so that’s a plus.
The Material Girl is known for re-inventing herself but I’m not sure she really accomplishes that on this track but it is a good dance song and her music has always been known for being danceable.
I’m not going to say it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard but it’s decent considering it’s the first single off of the upcoming Celebration which will be her third “greatest hits” collection. The album will …read more
One Dies, Six Injured After Madonna’s Venue Collapses
July 16, 2009 by Jeanne
Things went horribly wrong during the construction of the stage for a Madonna concert in Marseilles, France leaving one person dead and another six injured today. The event, which was scheduled for July 19, 2009 has been cancelled.
The concert was being held at the Velodrome where technicians were working to get the venue prepared when the roof collapsed. I haven’t heard any more details but I do know that the stadium is used by the Olympique Marseille soccer team.
Madonna Honors Michael Jackson at London Concert
When Michael Jackson died tragically almost two weeks ago, he was preparing for “This is It” comeback tour at London’s O2 Arena. It was rumored to be his biggest production yet (possibly the biggest show any performer has ever delivered) and I’m saddened that we will never know what he was going to do.
Madonna has openly grieved the King of Pop and I can understand the connection. They really became superstars around the same time (I’m referring to Michael’s solo career and not his time spent with the Jackson 5) and they really shaped music from the early 80s …read more
Madonna, Britney and Lisa Marie React to Michael Jackson’s Death
June 26, 2009 by Jeanne
Today, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died at the age of 50 after suffering from cardiac arrest. The cause of death is still unknown but celebrities have been reacting to the horrible news along with Jackson’s fans around the world.
Many of the most popular women in music have expressed their shock and sadness to the news through statements and Twitter messages.
Madonna really summed up how a lot of people have been feeling. "I can’t stop crying over the sad news. I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will …read more
Madonna: Divorce Official, Directorial Debut and Lost Tapes
October 20, 2008 by Kimberlee Morrison
While Madonna’s divorce is “officially” news, most of the folks paying attention have known it was coming for quite some time.
According to TMZ’s Harvey Levin, the divorce has been a done deal since way back in July. In fact, he claims the trickle down of information was carefully orchestrated to coincide with Madges “Sticky & Sweet” tour and directorial debut with Filth and Wisdom, which hit theaters just last week.
Sounds completely feasible to me…
In addition to directing a movie, a compilation of snippets from Madonna’s early recordings interspersed with parts of her Hall of Fame induction speech has …read more
Madonna Dedicates "Like a Virgin" to the Pope
September 8, 2008 by Kimberlee Morrison
While Katy Perry was at the VMAs ruining “Like a Virgin” with a stiff and uninspired performance, the Queen of Pop herself was in Rome making a dedication to the Pope.
“I dedicate this song to the pope, because I’m a child of God. All of you are also children of God…
She may be from a devoutly Catholic family, but that fact has not to deterred Madonna from courting controversy at every opportunity. In fact, Madge has had a combative relationship with the Catholic church since they lobbied criticism at her for the 1989 “Like a Prayer” video. In 2006, …read more
Madonna: Effortlessly Fabulous at 50
August 21, 2008 by Kimberlee Morrison
On Saturday, Madonna celebrated the big 50 and everybody has been doing retrospectives on her career, and the journey from Material Girl to reigning Queen of Pop. Madge may have gone through many a transition, but she has found a way to stay on top for nearly two decades when so many of her peers have fallen by the wayside. More amazing, is looking back and realizing that she didn’t even envision herself sustaining her music career as long as she has. Watch her try to check John Norris when he brought that up in a recent interview, and Norris …read more
