Aretha Franklin Slams Beyonce’s Grammy Intro
Aretha Franklin took issue with Beyonce’s introduction of Tina Turner at Sunday night’s Grammys. During her introduction Beyonce said, “There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent,” said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. “Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen.”
Aretha feels she’s the only Queen, however. “I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce,” Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. “However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”
Sounds kind of petty to me. Though Aretha is known as the Queen of Soul, Tina Turner earned enough accolades to also be considered Rock ‘N Roll royalty. And if Aretha did have issues with it, why not discuss it with the people who wrote Beyonce’s script instead of taking it to the press? Maybe a cry for attention? The battle of the divas?
I think it’s all rather unnecessary.
Beyonce and Tina Turner’s Grammy Award Performance
February 11, 2008 by Sarah
Tina Turner proves she still has it - check out her Grammy performance. First an introduction by Beyonce, than Tina performs massive renditions of “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Better Be Good to Me” and “Proud Mary”. Beyonce came back on stage to help sing “Proud Mary”. It was a great move bringing these two divas together.
Today a top question on Google Trends is “How old is Tina Turner?” She’s 68! 68 folks and she still looks great and rocks out like no body’s business.
