Heart’s Nancy Wilson Asks Sarah Palin to Stop Using "Barracuda" in Republican Campaign
Perhaps politicians don’t understand the magnitude of using a song as someone’s theme as they are introduced to as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, but the people making the music certainly do.
Case and point, Heart has spoken out against the use of their song “Barracuda” during the Republican National Convention earlier this week. According to an email distributed to various news media Thursday afternoon, the Republican campaign failed to secure the proper permissions for the use of the song.
In a statement to EW.com, Heart’s Nancy Wilson also had this to say:
“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.” [source]
It really should almost go without saying by now, but in case it doesn’t, rock musicians tend to be liberal. Probably not a good idea for conservative politicians to use their music in campaigns, unless of course, they have the expressed consent of the artist.
Just sayin’.
