Lollapalooza Musings: Girls Make Good Drummers Too!
As you know, I’m reveling in my nerdiness today, watching parts of Lollapalooza via the AT&T Blue Room.
Right now, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks are playing. Immediately I wondered who the drummer was. I often pay special attention to drummers, they drive the rhythm and pace of most songs, yet get little to no recognition. So I set out to find out who this drummer was.
Turns out she is former Sleater Kenny drummer, Janet Weiss. While Kenny may be defunct, Weiss is currently juggling being the drummer for The Jicks, Quasi, Bright Eyes and Conor Oberst. No telling what other projects she’s worked on that no one knows about; being a drummer is a critical but thankless job. Truth be told, Weiss could quite possibly be one of the hardest working musicians in rock; especially with four full-time gigs.
