MTV Lets the Fans Nominate their Favorite Videos for VMAs

by User ImageKimberlee Morrison on July 22nd, 2008

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are quickly approaching and this year, MTV is letting the fans select the nominees!

Are awards all about hype? Are album sales and Billboard charts a true reflection of the year’s the best, most popular artists? This year’s viewer’s choice VMAs give you a chance to test this very theory. While the general public will not be deciding who wins for most of the awards, MTV is allowing folks like you and me make the nominations for eight of the most important categories: Best Male Video, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best New Artist, Best Dancing In A Video, Best Rock Video and Video Of The Year.

The voting for Best Male Video and Best Female Video are already open and two new categories will be open on Fridays during FNMTV and on the VMA website, leading up to the show. The schedule is as follows:

Best Male Video opens for voting
Best Female Video opens for voting

July 25-30:
Best Pop Video opens for voting
Best Hip-Hop Video opens for voting

August 1-6:
Best New Artist opens for voting
Best Dancing In A Video opens for voting

August 8-13:

In another coup for music fans, MTV is actually letting you chose this year’s Best New Artist. Voting for Best New Artist will be open from August 8 until the VMAs air September 7, 2008, live from Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

I’m voting for Björk’s “Wanderlust” for Best Female Video. These days music videos are so generic, I like when artists are really creative. This video is colorful and enchantingly strange. Check it out and then go make your vote for Best Female Video.
