Music Cares Honors Aretha Franklin

by User Imagedng on February 10th, 2008

Music Cares honored Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin Friday night in Los Angeles. The benefit raised $4.5 million for the Music Cares charity.

The event was produced by Phil Ramone and was attended by many music notables including Clive Davis, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam and Dan Ackroyd. Aretha enjoyed performances by BeBe & CeCe Wayans, Patti Austin, John Legend and more. When Aretha took to the stage she was wiping tears from her eyes. “Are you enjoying this as much as I am?” she asked. “I knew I would need two or three handkerchiefs in my purse.” Then she brought down the house singing “Chain of Fools”.

Now, I don’t have the video from Friday night, but I do have a blast from the past for you.The other night Bill Cosby called Aretha the “real deal”. Indeed, no one comes close.
