Aretha Franklin fans are in for a real treat. Rhino Records is about to release a brand new collection featuring rare and unreleased tracks, “Rare and Unreleased Recordings from the Golden Reign of the Queen of Soul” . The first disc on the double-CD package will include B-sides, demos and outtakes including “You Keep Me Hanging On,” “Trying To Overcome,” and “My Way,” a cover of the Beatles classic”Fool on the Hill” and demo versions of “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You),” “Dr. Feelgood (Love Is a Serious Business)” and “Sweet Bitter Love.”
Disc Two will include a duet with Ray Charles entitled “Aint but the One.”
I’m going to be looking forward to this! Look for it on October 16th.

We are lucky to be alive to hear this incredible collection of unreleased sides Aretha cut way back when. You can see here why she’s far above the watered down stuff that is being called “r & b” today. They are midgets compared to this giant of music.
Aretha’s piano, alone, is worth the price of the CD. Her drivng gospel playing is soul-stirring and her singing, even in rehearsal, is better than everybody else’s.
I love “Heavenly Father,” “Tree of Life,” “Can You Love Again?”, “You’re All I Need To Get By” and “Are You Leaving Me?”
Special treats come when we hear Aretha “creating” “Dr. Feelgood” (a full version as opposed to what ended up on her first Atlantic album) and “I Never Loved A Man” in it’s early incarnation, with Aretha’s piano, a drum and perhaps a guitar.
At times, it’s like sitting in the studio, next to the piano, as Aretha goes through the paces. I love this album!!!
