Win An MP3 Player from She Plays Music!!!
Ok music fans, it’s time to put up or shut up. She Plays Music is giving away an MP3 player to a lucky member of the She Plays Music community. The winner will get to choose between a FlipSide MP3 Player for BlackBerries or a LobsterTunes MP3 player for Windows Mobile Handhelds.
So what’s the catch, Deb?
As always, you have to sing for your supper around here. To win, post your favorite one hit wonder in the comments. Link to a YouTube or audio stream of the song so we can all hear what it sounds like. Try to be creative with your comments because the winner is going to be the most entertaining commentator this month. It can be either the person who made me laugh the loudest or the one who appears to be having the most fun. Bonus points if you can get the other commenters here to start up a conversation and swap stories. Yes, this is a community building exercise. Are you up for it?
This contest ends April 30th. Have fun!

OK, I’ll go first. “Hot Buttered Popcorn.” Enough said. Oh, all right, I’ll elaborate … I can’t believe the songs that were hits when I was a teenager. If you’ve never heard this tune, you must search for it and listen. Good Lord.

Sorry! I forgot the link. Here you go: http://www.popcorn-song.com/. A whole page of the same song! Under 1972, “Hot Butter,” is the version I remember being played on the radio.

I have not thought about this one hit wonder for ages. It was popular when I was in highschool. I have a friend that reminds me of this particular song because she is big and towers over her husband. We played this song at their wedding and have videos of her towering over him singing “I’ll sock it to you daddy.” I hope you all find this as funny as I do. I only wish I had a copy of the wedding video to show as well

A one hit wonder that should have been a no hit wonder. In what can only be one of Mr Spocks most illogical displays of emotion, I present to you, “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” as sung by Lenoard Nimoy.. OMG, Its TERRIBLE!

Donna Lewis - “I Love You Always Forever” from 1996 I think it is… I used to work 2nd shift in a window manufacturing plant and I can remember one night that tune came on the radio and I don’t know what came over me but for whatever reason, I felt compelled to start lip syncing that song as I merrily danced my way past the other workers… This one poor guy was laughing so hard that he basically fell over onto one of the work tables. It was quite amusing, ya had to be there to appreciate it lol.

Okay, the troglodite was funny. I even called my kids in to watch. Bilbo Baggins is hilarious. Would you be able to envision Leonard Nimoy doing that without the video proof in front of you? Bang, Bang, I remember from a long long long time ago. It’s not a silly song, but really is a one hit wonder. I think.

Leonard Nimoy had no business singing. None…
I remember Bang Bang from my big hair metal days. I think I even liked it!
And Shuddupaya Face - I remember that from high school and hated, hated, hated it!! It was huge though.
One of the other blogger (Digital Music Scene, I think) remembered this as one of his least favorite one hit wonders ever ….and I tend to agree.

Rednex Cotton-Eyed Joe is the best one hit wonder! It was the hit of my wedding reception. Imagine a hundred people dressed to the nines, me in my bridal gown, hubby in his tux getting down to this totally odd, but oddly catchy tune. We had so much fun, although someone stepped on my gown and I was dancing so hard that I ripped it and didn’t even notice! Check out the song here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddgyg_5FF_0

I remember first hearing Telephone Man and thinking how dirty it was. “Hey baby I’m your telephone man, show me where you want and I’ll put it where I can.” To a preteen in 1977, that was racy.

Brandy - Looking Glass
I saw Looking Glass in 1972/73 in concert at the University of Maryland…. the band was so bad that when they tried to play anything other than Brandy they got boo’d so bad the band would break out in Brandy. They ended up just playing Brandy over and over…

Vanilla Ice with “Ice, Ice Baby” was a song that my daughter turned me unto in 1998. I hav listened to that sound many times and do have it on my computer line up. The white rapper part was a shock to me when a client asked me to do a bio of Vanilla Ice. I was amazed to learn he was white and not very well liked by the rappers.
There was rumor he was going to produce more music, but I have yet to hear any. He make his bucks off that one song though. It was a hit for a long time until people found out he was actually white.
I guess I like it becasue it is so simular to “Under Pressure” which is my fav.
