Amy Winehouse Won’t Face Charges
February 27, 2008 by Sarah
Every time I post something about a musician doing bad, my sister Diana sends an email saying, “Hey…it’s supposed to be a positive perspective of women in music.” She hasn’t sent me one of those emails for a while, so I think I’m due. Consider it your birthday present, Diana. Time for some Amy Winehouse news.
Amy Winehouse was being investigated in conjunction with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s witness tampering arrest. The police were wondering if Amy furnished the money Blake wanted to use to bribe the witness in his assault trial. The good news is that Amy won’t be investigated after all. In a statement released this week, Amy said she’s “pleased to be discounted from the investigation and thanks the police for their professionalism in their dealings with her.”
That’s positive, right?
Blast from the Past: Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life

10 One Hit Wonders Featuring Female Artists
February 25, 2008 by Sarah
Today is one-hit wonder day around the b5Media channel. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. I’m featuring these “wonders” because women feature prominently in each one, they’re not in any particular order. Some are good and some are really, really bad (like #7). I hope you enjoy the list.
1. The Divinyls: “I Touch Myself “- Oh what a scandal this song caused when it first came out. Yeah I bought the CD. Still listen to it sometimes too.
2. Dee-Light: “Groove is in the Heart” - Hated this song. Still do. How do you say de-annoying?
3. 4 Non Blondes - “What’s Up?” I liked this song a lot -the first 5,000 times they played it. After that it got kinda old.
4. Shocking Blue: “Venus” I thought song kicked ass back in the day. It’s much better than the lame Bananarama version.
5. Minnie Ripperton: “Lovin’ You” - A vomit inducing mix of birdsong and high notes.
6. Toni Basil - “Mickey” - This song still gives me nightmares.
7. l’Trimm: “Cars That Go Boom” - Bad doesn’t even begin to describe it. If these girls have talent, it’s not because they can sing.
8. Vicki Lawrence: “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” - A surprising and accidental but HUGE hit for Vicki Lawrence. I don’t love it or hate it, but after I hear it, it’s in my head for a while.
9. Lipps, Inc. “Funkytown”. Admit it. You like it too!
10. Lulu - “To Sir With Love”. Still a favorite of mine.
It’s a Boy…and a Girl for Jennifer Lopez
There’s wonderful news coming out of Long Island today. Jenneifer Lopez and Marc Anthony welcomed a twin boy and girl to the world shortly after midnight this morning. Though we don’t have names for you yet we can tell you the boy baby weighed in at 6 pounds and his sister came close at 5 pounds 7 ounces.
“Jennifer and Marc are delighted, thrilled and over the moon,” a rep for the couple said in a statement.
Congratulations to the proud parents.

Sheryl Crow and Amy Winehouse together on stage? Yeah I’d like to listen to that. Sheryl suggested recently she’d be interested in a duet. “I want to collaborate with Amy because she’s really hot and cool right now.”
It would be an interesting and fun pairing for sure.
